8:00pm Joey Molinaro - solo violin
Performing original works of the INTERNATIONAL COVEN OF DANGEROUS VIOLINISTRY,
WE, and THE MUSIC OF ERICH ZANN
9:00pm binary funk with Madalyn Merkey/Josh Casey/Taurin Barrera

Relentlessly-touring grind violinist Joey Molinaro’s sets often includes seventeen rapid-fire Discordance Axis-inspired songs, epic acoustic black metal, overdriven poetry, video projections, stomping, screaming, and no-wave chamber-grind electronics.
Molinaro “executes the spirit and function of hardcore punk and Appalachian folk” (Foxy Digitalis) and synthesizes something dangerous yet familiar. Sometimes acoustic sometimes electric with “muted vocals [that] haunt, like a preternatural voice from beyond the pale” (Razorcake) and torrential boot-stomping he is at home bills with orchestral black metal bands, experimental chamber pop, or psychedelic rock.

Madalyn Merkey’s music is generated from analog and computer synthesis, as well as her own voice. She studied sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College. For her performance at the luggage store, Madalyn will present a selection of her own computer synthesis improvisations with a potential duet with electronic or acoustic performer.
Josh Casey is a composer from Dallas, Texas who designed music for the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in 2012. He likes loud and soft noises, long runs on the beach, and exploring fresh experiences through auditory means.
Taurin Barrera is a sound artist and audiovisual composer whose work explores interactive connections between digital media and perception. Inside the box, he writes custom software to make sounds interactive, visible, and 3D. Outside of the box, Taurin combines handmade electronics, field recordings, and electroacoustic instrumentation to create immersive sonic environments for performance and installation.
