Jones Jones is Mark Dresser on bass and effects, Lithuanian Vladimir Tarasov on percussion and Rova Sax member Larry Ochs. The trio has played intermittently on tours in Europe and USA since 2008, but the connections go much further back. Ochs and Tarasov met in USSR in 1983 during the historic Rova-USSR tour documented on PBS, and Ochs helped Tarasov and the historic Ganelin Trio to tour the USA in 1986,the first tour of a USSR jazz trio in the USA, at the height of the Cold War. Dresser and Tarasov met and performed in the USSR in 1998. Dresser was, of course, the bassist in the greatest of Anthony Braxton’s 1980’s gound-breaking quartets, also featuring Marilyn Crispell and Gerry Hemingway. Expect sublime and detailed music from this stellar group of veteran improvisers.
