Vocalist/composer Molly Holm continues to explore "any-kind-of-tonal" and free-form improvisation in solo and small group formats. She also plays with the idea of weaving experimental vocals and "outside" musical material within the set of her own compositions and "lesser-known" jazz repertoire.

Molly Holm is a long-time Bay Area singer, vocal ensemble director, and teacher in jazz and multi-cultural performance art. Her 2013 debut CD, PERMISSION--with Holm wearing the hat of bandleader and composer--received enthusiastic reviews, touting a musical sensibility beyond the usual fare of jazz vocalists. Holm acknowledges the important influences in her own music, long-derived from her work with a wide-range of creative artists and ensembles, including: Bobby McFerrin's original Voicestra; Terry Riley and Khayal; Zakir Hussain's Rapt, No Strings; June Watanabe's E.O. 9066; and George Coates Performance Works' Actual Shō. She also composed the music for Marcus Gardley's plays Love is A Dream House in Lorin and This World In a Woman's Hands. Earning a BA in Music and an MA in Composition from Mills College, Holm developed a long-standing student relationship with master North Indian vocalist, Pandit Pran Nath and Terry Riley. Additionally, she studied with Lou Harrison and W. A. Mathieu; and voice teachers, Faith Winthrop and Jane Sharp.
