Max Johnson is a bassist, composer, and bandleader based in New York City. As a sideman with a nonstop touring schedule, Johnson has performed with renowned musicians Anthony Braxton, Muhal Richard Abrams, John Zorn, and Candido Camero, playing more than 1,000 concerts in North America and Europe in the past five years. In addition to his busy work as a bass player, he is an active bandleader with five records to his name, which have been reviewed in the New York Times, JazzTimes, NYC Jazz Record, and other publications, and as a result, Johnson was voted Best Newcomer Musician in the 2012 El Intruso International Critic’s Poll. For this concert, Max Johnson has assembled a special West Coast edition of his long standing trio, featuring Darren Johnston on trumpet and Donald Robinson on Drums. The concert will feature music from the trio's two previous albums and a handful of new compositions.
