Fast Forward and Eyvind Kang share a program featuring their recent works. Using an array of kitchen hardware and assorted artifacts, Fast Forward will perform his latest composition for alternative instrumentation. Composer and violist Eyvind Kang’s work draws from a variety of classical, traditional, and popular styles.

About "Sound Kitchen" by Fast Forward:
"Sound Kitchen," conceived and performed as a solo, will be performed tonight with the addition of two long-standing Bay Area percussionists. Using a frame drum as a ‘table’ it incorporates an array of kitchen hardware and additional objects to present a less than conventional percussion work. The last time Fast Forward performed on the Mills stage was for his graduate thesis concert entitled “I was a Teenage BTU”, 37 years ago.

Biographies:
Fast Forward
Fast Forward graduated from the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College in 1978. He is a New York based composer and performer who makes music with almost anything. The sonic properties of metal objects has been his particular interest since 1981.He is best known for his music-theatre works for diverse instrumentation and compositions for large ensembles. ”Feeding Frenzy", a culinary concert for 5 musicians, 5 cooks, 5 waiters, and the audience, has been performed in Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany and the USA. It ran for three seasons at the Kitchen Center in New York and was performed at The Museum for Contemporary Art in Berlin for the 15 year celebration of Freunde Guter Musik. He toured extensively as a guest composer and musician for The Merce Cunningham Dance Company and directed and performed in composer Robert Ashley’s legendary opera "That Morning Thing" with a cast of 17 at Performa 11 in New York. As a teacher, he teaches master classes in composition, improvisation, and music/theater at various institutions including: Time of Music Festival (Viitassari, Finland), Bergen and Trondheim Art Academies (Norway), STEIM (Amsterdam, Holland), Wien University (Vienna) and Podewil (Berlin).

Eyvind Kang
Composer and violist Eyvind Kang has released a dozen albums of original music, such as "The Narrow Garden" (Ipecac) and "Visible Breath" (Ideologic Organ). He often performs with vocalist/composer Jessika Kenney in many contexts, including their works of austere beauty "Aetuarium" and "the Face of the Earth (Ideologic 2011/12). As a violist he has worked extensively with Laurie Anderson and Bill Frisell, as well as presented works by Christian Wolff, Giacinto Scelsi, Satyajit Ray and Hanne Darboven. He has also been a guest musician and arranger on hundreds of albums, including those by John Zorn, Sunn O))), Blonde Redhead, and Glass Candy.
