Resonance: Susie Ibarra

Percussionist Susie Ibarra draws on polyrhythmic traditions from her Filipino heritage and from cultures across Asia and Africa to create avant-garde compositions evoking narrative, imagery, and the natural rhythms of life.

For Resonance, Ibarra will perform Circadian Rhythms for solo drum set and percussion, with field recordings from the Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Circadian Rhythms will blend live performance with recorded sound mixed for the Kanbar Forum’s 72-channel system. The piece is inspired by the endogenous rhythms found inside different organisms, and how they change during different behaviors, such as whales and dolphins migrating or birthing, monarch butterflies migrating, and songbirds eating, sleeping, or flying.
