Rhythm + Strings + Woodwind + Brass = David James' GPS

Come and join us for a night of Instrumental Stories and Brazilian Songs. Trombone, violin, and clarinets meet deep rhythm in these compositions and arrangements by David James.

With a diverse musical background of playing in settings ranging from old World Fusion (Trance Mission) to ambient/noise (Thessalonians) to Hip-Hop (The Coup, Spearhead), GPS seeks out the various "sweet spots" where these and other influences intersect, shake hands, and occasionally jockey for position

The band plays David's compositions, which vary in moods (from cartoon-funny to mournful) and styles (from reggae-jazz to Senegalese-Irish groove), as DJ's arrangements of Brazilian songs by Paulinho da Viola, Gulherme de Brito, and others. And with the strings-woodwind-brass line-up, they weave rich, warm textures, marry the melodic to the grooving, and improvise deftly.
