Karen Stackpole and Drew Webster coaxing harmonics from large gongs while herding transduced vibrations through analog effects and mixing it all together to bring the listener into the a transcendent world of layered sound. The Electric Shaman is Kyle Bouchard, an audio engineer and musician from the Pacific Northwest and a member of Portland’s Creative Music Guild. Bouchard is trained in psychoacoustics, bioacoustics, sound synthesis, composition, and performance.
This will be a unique event comprised of a special performance by Machine Shop, individual gong experiences, and one-on-one encounters with The Electric Shaman. Inspired by a meeting with a Tuvinian shaman, Bouchard has created his own shamanic ritual using modern technology. The immersion ritual is performed for one person at a time in a quiet, private space. A participant reclines face-up on a comfortable table. Headphones are worn, and five sub-sonic speakers are placed on the palms, upper and lower chest, and abdomen. Sound immersion is a full mind/body experience both in audible form, through the headphones, and via subsonic vibrations traveling throughout the body. The experience creates sensations unique to each individual and can range from a feeling of calm relaxation and serenity to intense euphoria and heightening of the senses.
