Broun Fellinis
Formed 1991 in San Francisco by Kevin Carnes, drums/sampler (Beatnigs, UAF), David Boyce, tenor/soprano saxophone, efx, synth, spoken word, and Kirk Peterson, electric bass. The Broun Fellinis play a soulful and aggressive style of post modern improvised/composed jazzical sound that is informed by dub, afro beat, abstract funk, hardcore/psych/prog rock and film soundtracks. The group has been profiled on NPR and BET in the US and on Radio Nova in France. Broun Fellinis have toured with Ben Harper and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and performed with many great acts such as The Last Poets, Meshell Ndegeocello, Living Colour, Erykah Badu, the Roots, Mos Def, Gil Scott-Heron, Zakir Hussain, Bernie Worrell, George Clinton, Jimmy Smith, General Public, Ravi Coltrane, and more.

“the Broun Fellinis glide easily and often from frenzied excursions to plaintive exotic melodies to hypnotic grooves.” Downbeat 10/99

“a swirling melange of dub and funk, prog rock and drum ‘n’ bass, Afrobeat and hip-hop, all laced together with jazz’s improvisational imperative.” -Andrew Gilbert, SF Chronicle 2012

“Prepare to be put under their amazing musical spell.” SF Weekly’03

“the true joy of the Broun Fellinis came from watching them perform. The Fellinis are an experience.” Musician‘95
