TECHNE was co-founded in 2010 by internationally active and critically acclaimed electronic musician/composers Suzanne Thorpe and Bonnie Jones. We are a national arts education organization tasked with a mission to give rise to distinct and divergent female voices in the realms of technology and the arts.To facilitate our goal, we create environments that encourage identity exploration, critical thinking, experimentation, and creative expression through workshops that include DIY electronics and musical improvisation, and concert presentations featuring women electronic musicians. In our presentation, we will discuss how TECHNE employs art strategies, project¬-based interaction and social activism with community collaborators to engender change. We will also explore how the structure of our workshops challenges established cultural binaries, and encourages alternative ways of knowing through the engagement with sound.
