The Ivy Room Improv/Noise Hootennany presents side one of Myles Boisen's Ornettology, the portable big band with a 5-year history of interpreting the music of alto saxophonist Ornette Coleman. The group is made up of a "who's who" of the Bay Area jazz and improv scenes, with players from Rova Sax Quartet, Club Foot Orchestra, Orchestra Nostalgico, Broken Shadows, Glorious Ravage, Lost Trio and many more. Ornettology explores all phases of the Ornette legacy, from the poignant melodies of the early 60's through the wild group improvisation of the 1970's, and beyond the disco jitter of the 1980's Prime Time years.

Leader Myles Boisen is a guitarist, composer, and record producer who first came to prominence in the Bay Area when performing with John Zorn's Cobra and the Rova Sax Quartet. This appearance led to the formation of the Splatter Trio, a restlessly creative group that melded jazz and improv with an assaultive, punk spirit, and also spawned ground-breaking tributes to Anthony Braxton, Sun Ra, and Miles Davis. Along the way, Myles has played or recorded with Nina Hagen, Tom Waits, Fred Frith, director David Lynch, and many more.

Players lineup is correct:
Steve Adams (sax)
Vijay Anderson (drums)
Myles Boisen (guitar)
John Finkbeiner (guitar)
Phillip Greenlief (sax)
Darren Johnston (trumpet)
Lisa Mezzacappa (bass)

And, per usual, there will be an Ushi-matsuri Ritual, this one celebrating the day Richard Nixon left office.
