Believing that the vibraphone is one of the most underutilized and generally undeveloped acoustic instruments today, Michael Whalen seeks to increase awareness for the little known flexibility and many textures that it provides with his musicality and performances. He studied with Ed Saindon, one of the greatest virtuosos on vibes and a master technician, at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Awarded a scholarship upon his admission, he graduated with a degree in Performance in the Fall of 2016 after 2 and a half years of study.
Drummer Kevin Murray has been involved in the Creative Music scene since he was first introduced to the music via a workshop and performance with bassist William Parker in 2012. Since then, he has been a regular member of San Jose-based trumpeter Eddie Gale's various ensembles, and has also performed alongside Nicole Mitchell and Peter Kuhn. He is currently a member of two duo projects - with vibraphonist Michael Whalen, and Parhelion, with keyboardist and electronic artist Nathan Ho.
