Rent Romus wields this new trio exploring expansive thematic music.
Rent Romus is a saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist, composer, bandleader, music producer, and community leader hailed by Downbeat as having "...a bold sound, unmistakable sincerity and conviction". A third generation Finnish American born in the great north of upper Michigan and growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Romus' work on the saxophone has been dubbed “ferocious” by the San Francisco Weekly and “central to the creative music world of the West Coast” by writer jazz critic Frank Rubolino.
Scott Walton's interests cut across musical genres. He has collaborated with poets, dancers, performance artists, filmmakers, and multimedia artists. He has worked with George Lewis, Bobby Bradford, Anthony Davis, Wadada Leo Smith, John Carter, J.D. Parran, John Abercrombie, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Clifford Jordan, Al Cohn, Buddy Tate, and Frank Wess to name a few.
Donald Robinson is a stalwart of the of San Francisco bay area avant-garde jazz scene. He has a long and rich history of working with John Tchicai, Marco Eneidi, Larry Ochs, Miya Masaoka, Cecil Taylor, Wadada Leo Smith, George Lewis, Raphe Malik, Paul Plimley, and Glenn Spearman. During the early 1970's he served his musical apprenticeship in the jazz world of Paris, studying with Kenny Clarke and playing with Alan Silva, Anthony Braxton, Oliver Lake and Bobby Few among many others.
PINBOKEH TRIO
Pinbokeh is a trio based out of Oakland, CA that explores lush textures and soundscapes. A collection of unmetered rhythms and stretched out harmonic patterns create pieces that are reminiscent of the Nels Cline Singers with the still ambiance of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Grouper. With each member of the group coming from rock, jazz, and contemporary classical backgrounds, Pinbokeh’s music renders varied influences and forms into their work. The trio is composed of:
