Mike Perlmutter
saxophones, clarinet, tiny instruments.
Mike Perlmutter performs on saxophones, clarinet, and tiny instruments. Of late he's most frequently seen performing with Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment, a group that stretches outward from klezmer and Balkan music roots. Zoyres' music encapsulates traditional music forms of Eastern Europe, as well as more "outside" sounds and approaches continue to captivate Mike.

Hailing from the Boston, MA area, Mike made his entrée into new and experimental music performing with NME, the new music ensemble of Tufts University in 1997. In 1998 Mike migrated to San Francisco, CA, where he performed with new music and improvising ensembles Ø24c, Radiolaria, and the Brown Bunny Ensemble. During a brief stint in New Haven, Connecticut he performed with the Subterraneans, JBAMM! Klezmer, and the Yale Klezmer Band. Now living in Oakland, he continues to perform with Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment, a group he started in 2004. Mike also presents solo works for saxophones.

Recordings of Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment can be heard at zoyres.monopod.net, http://www.myspace.com/zoyres, and http://youtube.com/profile?user=Zoyres.
Recordings of the Subterraneans are up at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=190431043.

Mike has performed at clubs, cafes, bars, and street-corners and parks throughout the San Francisco Bay Area as well as in performance spaces and on radio in Massachusetts and California.

Mike currates ambient sounds, ambient spaces, a performance series of free outdoor concerts in unusual and out of the way places. Mike is happy to hear your input regarding future venues and performers.
