Aaron NovikLink to home page : Aaron Novik Biography: Aaron Novik started playing the clarinet somewhat late in life, as a senior in college. Upon moving to San Francisco a year later, he called up Ben Goldberg to learn how to make cool squawking noises. Ben wisely suggested that Aaron actually learn how to play the clarinet, which he proceeded to do (albiet somewhat begrudgingly).Fast forward a few years; Aaron decides to study composition for real and enrolls in some classes at UC Berkeley. It's here he comes into contact most notably with Eitan Steinberg, Olly Wilson and Steve Coleman, all of whom have a profound effect on him. Currently Aaron leads 4 bands, Gubbish, Cutting Guard, The Maccabeats, and Kipple, as well as a few chamber ensembles, the crafty apples, mishlinga chamber group, and netbonepetphone. He also puts on the "sideman hat" for the local groups Patrick Cress' Telepathy, Transmission, Edmund Welles, the Walnut Chamber ensemble and The Nathan Clevenger Group, as well as an occasional gig with Graham Connah.
