Biography:Carol Alban is the principal flutist with the Bay Area Chamber Symphony and frequently performs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and occasionally in New York. Carol plays classical, modern and improvised music and has performed at all kinds of venues, ranging from the prestigious Berkeley Piano Club to Hollywood's historic Egyptian Theater to the infamous CBGB night club in New York City. She was a featured performer at the 2006 Bay Area Flute Fest at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland and will be featured again at the 2007 World Flute Fest. www.worldflutefest.com She maintains an active East Bay teaching studio and directs the Fluteville Flute Choir. She is a member of the National Flute Association and the New York Flute Club. Carol recently founded the San Francisco Flute Quartet.
Carol Alban composes concert and film music. "Elegy", a solo flute piece she composed and dedicated to victims of hurricane Katrina was premiered by Carol at the 2005 Hurricane Relief Concert at San Francisco's Temple Emanu-el that included performances by Michael Tilson Thomas and Frederica Von Stade. An expanded version of "Elegy" was performed at the 2006 Tribeca New Music Festival by violinist extraordinaire, Mary Rowell (of the Ethel String Quartet). The New York Times reviewed the concert and deemed the piece "sweetly angular". "Elegy" is currently being performed throughout Eurasia by composer/multi-instrumentalist Demetrius Spaneas. Carol is currently composing for flute choir.
