Gestaltish is a Bay Area ensemble that explores improvised music in both playful and methodical ways with a surprising array of results. The members of the ensemble have diverse musical backgrounds and met while working with Fred Frith in the Mills College Improvisation ensemble. Since 2012, they have been shaping and exploring sounds to create evocative yet open-ended musical experiences. Using game structures as temporal architectures in which to play, Gestaltish deeply listen to each other and their surroundings, encapsulating sonic moments and reinvigorating the notion of free improvisation with unexpected instrumentation and intuitions.

The 15th Annual Outsound New Music Summit is coming up starting the week of July 24 showcasing wild and wondrous music, workshops, and new experiences. This year will feature living legends of jazz and improvisation; a night of amazing cuting edge composition; an epic night of sound collage, music film documentary, our yearly “Touch the Gear” Expo and two open public music improvisation workshops.
Performances will include Oliver Lake, Big City Orchestra, Thomas Carnacki, Brandon Evans, James Cornish, IMA,
Brett Carson’s Mysterious Decent,
Dan Plonsey Ensemble, Inner Ear Brigade, Dirty Snacks Ensemble, and many others

This year our donor thank you benefit dinner event “The Wednesday a little more then a month before” is coming up on June 22nd to be held at Finnish Kaleva Hall, a great place for music and culture in North Berkeley located at 1970 Chestnut Street just four blocks from the North Berkeley BART station. Outsound Presents plays an important role in sustaining Bay Area creative and experimental music presenting over eighty shows annually on a very small budget including the Outsound New Music Summit in July, but it can’t happen without you.
