Phillip Greenlief - solo saxophone improvisations

Since his emergence on the west coast in the late 1970s, Evander Music founder and saxophonist Phillip Greenlief has achieved international critical acclaim for his recordings and performances with musicians and composers in the post-jazz continuum as well as new music innovators and virtuosic improvisers. He has performed and recorded with Fred Frith, Meredith Monk, and They Might Be Giants; albums include THAT OVERT DESIRE OF OBJECT with Joelle Leandre, and ALL AT ONCE with FPR (Frank Gratkowski, Jon Raskin, Phillip Greenlief). Recent residencies have included Headlands Center for the Arts and from 2012 to 2014 he was the curator at Berkeley Arts, a home for progressive music. He is the recipient of a San Francisco Bay Guardian Goldie Award.

"The Bay Area's do-it-yourself ethos has produced a bevy of dazzlingly creative musicians, but few have put the philosophy to work as effectively as Phillip Greenlief." - Andrew Gilbert, San Francisco Chronicle (www.evandermusic.com)

The Miscreants
Ben Goldberg - clarinet
Trevor Dunn - acoustic bass
Scott Amendola - drums

Long time musical cohorts Trevor, Ben and Scott hit the road for a west coast venture. They've been playing music together prior to the term "email", which actually now even seems to be ancient. Drawing from original music of all 3, and various songs by others (Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Ornette Coleman, Diamanda Galas, Black Sabbath, Wayne Shorter, The Beach Boys, and others...) improvisation will lead the way when dismantling music. Here's a little bit about them...

Trevor Dunn hails from Eureka, California, the son of a mother and father. At an early age Mr. Dunn found himself playing clarinet. Thank the lord he found the bass. Once he realized there was no clarinet player in Kiss, he permanently relocated his musical endeavors to the bass guitar, which eventually led to the stand-up bass. He leads various bands: from the effervescent "Trio Convulsant" to the angularpop/rock of Madlove. He's a co-founding member of the confounding "Mr. Bungle", and has been seen many times around the globe with the various ensembles led by Mr. John Zorn. Trevor has also been caught bowling withThe Melvins. Trevor is an Aquarius.

Ben Goldberg was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. He never liked Kiss so out ofthe gate he jetted towards the clarinet. At an early age he studied with Italian-American Rosario Mazzeo. A good move, (according to other Italian-Americans). Ben has been a prolific bandleader for decades. He formed the adventurous "New Klezmer Trio" in the 90's, and has worked with the likes of John Zorn, Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, and many others. Ben is a prolific composer. He released "Orphic Machine" in 2015, comprising of deep compositions, and poetry with a large ensemble. Ben is a Leo.

Scott Amendola was born in Englewood, New Jersey. He studied at Berklee College of Music and lives in the bay area. He composed a symphony called "Fade To Orange" which features Mr. Dunn and guitarist Nels Cline (with whom he's played since the mid 90's, andis a member of "The Nels Cline Singers" along with Trevor). Amendola plays with Charlie Hunter (since 1993), likes fresh mangoes, and really likes playing with Ben and Trevor. Scott is also an Aquarius.
