A night with
Jordan Glenn's Wiener Kids and Special Guests
Oakland's own bizarro sax/drum trio Wiener Kids presents a very special evening of music in celebration of their 10 year anniversary. To help them celebrate, they have invited friends
Fred Frith,
Jason Hoopes,
Christina Stanley and
Crystal Pascucci. They will play selections from their extensive catalog, ranging from the whimsical to the profound.
Brainchild of drummer/composer
Jordan Glenn, Wiener Kids represents Glenn’s vast interests in improvised and classic chamber music, jazz, garage rock and the arcane practices of instrument builders like Roscoe Mitchell, Paul Dresher, Dan Rathbun (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum) and Kenny Wollesen, all filtered through this unique trio of reeds and percussion. Formed in 2007 with the help of saxophonists Aram Shelton and
Cory Wright, Wiener Kids hit the Bay Area underground music scene playing music that has been described as whimsical, cartoon-like, meticulous and at the same time profound and chaotic. It is music inspired by small dogs, old bikes, Jim Henson’s Muppets, Pee-wee Herman, cheap Halloween costumes, babies with glasses and other wiener kids.
As the years have gone by the pallet of the band has expanded to incorporate percussion sounds from near and far. Objects/instruments include gongs, tin cans, tibetan bowls, bundt pans, chromatic cowbells, triangles, car springs, suitcase-vibraphone, glockenspiels and various whistles, drums and bells.
