Dal Niente harpist Ben Melsky and flutist Emma Hospelhorn team up to present “New Paradigms,” a program that explores new dimensions of this classic instrumental duo. The program will feature two world premieres and three classics of the contemporary flute and harp repertoire.
Toru Takemitsu’s fluidly organic Toward the Sea, Kaija Saariaho’s sensitive Tocar and Salvatore Sciarrino’s Fauno che fisca a un merlo frame premieres by Chicago composers Robert Reinhart and Aliçan Camci. Robert Reinhart’s Fit embraces two different meanings of the word: the piece interrupts the process of fitting together interlocking parts with spasmodic, fluid fits. Camci’s new work transcribes a fragment of a poem by the Turkish poet Ahmed-i Da’î into musical language, prompting the instrumentalists to perform contrasting “readings” of the same material.
