Join us for an evening of auditory astronomy with Chris Chafe and Greg Niemeyer’s A Day in the Sun and Chris Duncan’s 12 Symbols.

Chris Chafe and Greg Niemeyer bring A Day in the Sun, a hybrid music and video performance that depicts the rotation of the sun on its axis, accompanied by the sonification of observational data and cello improvisations. And in Chris Duncan’s immersive sound experience 12 Symbols, a dozen percussionists track the patterns of the sun and moon and the phenomenon of the eclipse.

Chris Chafe is a composer, improviser, and cellist, and the director of Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics.

Greg Niemeyer is a professor of new media at UC Berkeley; his work focuses on mediation among individuals, communities, and environments.
