CCM 51st Anniversary Concerts and Symposium

The Music Department and the Center for Contemporary Music (CCM) host a special series of three concerts and a symposium to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the CCM and its amazing history. The first two concerts feature compositions and performances by stellar CCM graduates and faculty chosen from each decade of its existence. On Saturday afternoon, a symposium titled “Mills Women in Electronic Music” will be hosted by Professor David Bernstein and will feature Mills’ alumnae as panelists. The final concert on Sunday afternoon will feature current CCM faculty performing recent work.

Since its inception in 1966, the CCM has been at the forefront of developments emphasizing experimental methods in contemporary music and electronic media. Its first director, legendary composer Pauline Oliveros, was followed over the years by directors Robert Ashley, who also co-directed with David Behrman in the late-1970s, David Rosenboom, and more recently Maggi Payne and Chris Brown as Co-Directors for the last 25 years. Over that time, the organization has established an illustrious international reputation as a leading center for innovation in music.
