Bill Orcutt & Jacob Felix Heule
A high voltage sinister smile seems to run the space from Orcutt's deadpan to Heule's stone face. You'll see it only in their sound though, as captured on their 2015 "Colonial Donuts" (named to Rolling Stone's "Top 20 Best Avant Albums") with its "explosive, high-energy collaboration of electric guitar and drums as close to Delta Blues as Lightning Bolt."

Bren't Lewiis Ensemble
No strategy is too oblique for this elastic coterie of aging weirdos, whether it’s manipulated mass media cut-ups, free improv, repetitive chanting, peculiar covers of foreign infomercials, no-instruments sound art, or field recordings from destinations unknown. One never knows how many of them will perform — could be eight, could be two, could be a wind-up toy monkey bashing tiny cymbals together, could be a mound of butter with a wool blanket thrown over it. Their instrumentation and methods include everyday objects, pre-recorded loops, found sound, power tools, toys, real instruments, children, animals, and the generally unaware.

Cruel Work
Blooming in the darkness of the Peacock Lounge, this is the beloved, ever unfolding, extended solo cello project of Angela Roberts, Oakland's sub-underground explorist in the vernacular of small noise, speech, ambient sounds and improvisation. The reclusive Roberts also writes and edits the incredibly famous zine Supertrooper, worthwhile reading in preparation for her extraordinary music.

Looose
Melter extraordinaire, the three-lunged woodwind furnace that is Randy Lee Sutherland toasts your nose and grills your cheese to perfection. Make olives of your eyes and tuck in, that dinner bell tolls for thee.
