Unfixing Art-making: A Collaborative Performance Workshop

Chicago-based ensemble Mocrep join music and interdisciplinary students at Mills College for a 3-day intensive collaborative devising workshop culminating in a work-in-progress showing. The workshop aims to challenge the structures that commodify artistic relationships, to renegotiate the concept of authorship, and to make interdisciplinary performance art as the result of convergence--contingent on the people in the room.
For three days, participants will have the opportunity to participate in two workshops with the ensemble and other participants, with the option for additional time outside of that framework for collaborative rehearsals.
Students are invited to participate in two ways: either by submitting short informal proposals (1 page or less) describing a potential project on which they’d like to collaborate with Mocrep * and/or their colleagues in the workshop, OR as open collaborators without fixed proposals.
Students who do not wish to participate in the workshop may audit lectures, critiques, and rehearsals. All aspects of the workshops are open to the public.
