Philip Perkins
Live recording and mixing; electronic and concrete sound works
My name is Philip Perkins. I've been making sound works since the late 1960's in one form or another, and recording and mixing sound for others for the same period of time.

My sound works have appeared on recordings on the Artifact and Fun Music labels and as radio works on the NPR, CBC, and various European, Australian and Japanese radio networks. I spent 1979-84 working closely with SF-based band THE RESIDENTS, and have collaborated with Scott Fraser (as THE BIFURCATORS) from 1973--present (recordings, films and other works). My films (experimental animation, mostly, 1973-80) are available from Canyon Cinema. My involvement with the SF area improv music scene has largely been as a recording engineer, having recorded and mixed projects for or including (among many others) The Hub, Kronos Quartet, Rotodoti, The Natto Quartet, Fuzzy Bunny, Fred Frith, Wadada Leo Smith, Tom Nunn, Tim Perkis, Tom Dill, Philip Greenlief, Chris Brown, Pauline Oliveros, Gino Robair, Biggi Vinkeloe, Phil Gelb, Luciano Chessa, Trimpin, Eugene Chadbourne, John Bischoff, and Barbara Borden.

I've also done recording projects with Tom Waits, Alasdair Fraser, Kelly Joe Phelps, the SF City Chorus, Gamalan Sekar Jaya, The ClubFoot Orchestra, Youth Speaks, Holly Near, Gatemouth Brown, Otis Rush, The Dixie Hummingbirds, BB King, Hugh Masekela, Peter Gabriel, Arlo Guthrie, Sarah Cahill, Richard Goode, MC Hammer and many others.
