Quarantine Sessions #19 | A Distributed Electroacoustic Network Improvisation

The Coronavirus Crisis has changed our lives and we are in the midst of a long period without concerts as we knew them. In addition to the problem of large audiences, the regulations also make it 'virtually' impossible for musicians to get together, to rehearse, or perform. However, many technologies and solutions are already available, helping us to find new ways of collaborating and transporting our work to audiences.

In the past ten weeks, we have been programming, testing, and rehearsing in an online environment between California, Berlin (DE), and Ghent (BE). Each Saturday afternoon we are presenting a concert that connects six musicians from these locations and guests from other places to each other. The sessions are broadcast live with audio and video feeds from each site.  More...

Opening and closing with a rhythmic meditation, Eki Shola's fourth album, Essential, evolved beyond its original intent to embrace newness and self-discovery through the power of voice. The album envelops you in instrumentals, spoken word, and lyrics that share hope and inspiration inspired by periods of contemplation among movements of climate change, coronavirus pandemic, and Black Lives Matter advocacy.  More...

Free online event: Join via YouTube or Facebook

It happens around 15 times a minute, regularly and rhythmically. You may not even notice it—but if it stopped, you definitely would. Tonight, we turn our attention to human breath. Find out how human breathing has changed over an extended period of time, through both physical and external factors, and how bringing attention to your breath can restore health while cultivating calm and empathy.

After nearly 6 months of daily improvisations, pianist/arranger Andrew Barnes Jamieson will perform a set that ties together his various sonic explorations: He will create and interpret solo piano pieces that bring separate elements into dialogue: familiar melodies (sometimes several at once, in different keys and tempi), unusual harmonies, rhythms from jazz and classical traditions, composition, and improvisation, streaming live from Center for New Music’s grand piano. He invites listening to the points of convergence, confusion, clarity, tension, humor, and insight through the juxtaposition of various elements and the contexts they represent, as a musical illustration of the kind of conversations needed for in-person cross-cultural dialogue.
