Sun 12/08 3:00 PM The Women's Building [3543 18th Street #8 San Francisco, CA 94110]
This family-friendly winter celebration begins with the visceral and reflective piece, "The Ice is Talking" by Vivian FUNG. Scored for solo percussion and electronics, it is in essence a celebration of the elements, taking in the beauty of gliding through ice as taps and swishes shape into virtuosic rhythmic patterns and end with dramatic flair, in the hope of raising awareness to the world around us. As the ice melts away, we create a “community-made” piece designed by Jason TREUTING, a member of the acclaimed So Percussion Quartet, titled "How to (Blank)." Audience members fill in the blanks with headlines captured from the day’s (good) news to add to the festive atmosphere. The audience is invited to bring an instrument and join in on Treuting's piece.  More...

Éliane Radigue (b. 1932) is a pioneering French composer of undulating continuous music marked by patient, virtually imperceptible transformations that purposefully unfold to reveal the intangible, radiant contents of minimal sound—its partials, harmonics, subharmonics and inherent distortions.  More...

Los Angeles–based composer Tashi Wada presents his new group featuring Julia Holter and percussionist Corey Fogel, performing music from Wada’s album Nue. This collaboration ranges from minimalist bagpipes to otherworldly vocals, creating, in Wada’s words, “a vision, an endless night of dreams, and a personal history of sorts, full of joys and demons.” From the doubling of tones—and the world of harmonic nuances such an action produces—to the interplay between individual musicians, Wada’s compositions allow space for these elements to join and grow.  More...

DemonFace
To hear the music of DemonFace is to glimpse the anchorline beneath it all. In sunless depths where noord, tranoe, toe fetish and larynx converge an immense hunger hunts without rest.

Ava Mendoza
Since moving from Oakland to Brooklyn, Mendoza's guitar powers have only amplified, her voice intensified, her collaborators multiplied, and her chops been verified. Tonight expect a solo set.

Nomad Trio

Gordon Grdina has managed to place a finger in every corner of the jazz/world fusion room. —Pop Matters

Complex, intricate, idiosyncratic, and rockin’—those are the adjectives that best describe this cross-border collaboration between Vancouver guitarist Gordon Grdina, and New York’s Matt Mitchell piano, and Jim Black drums. Juno Award winner Grdina’s compositions give the nod to 20th century classical composition, rock, free jazz, and third stream, and this trio promises to explore those ideas at their highest levels.

Burmese
If you haven't yet heard (and marvelled at the cover art) of their 2xLP on Fuck Yoga Records out of Macedonia, untwist yourself and figure it out fast. Consider it a metaphyical stretch before you're standing a few feet away from them inside the Peacock Lounge.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVGrzEnuPsU

Pandiscordian Necrogenesis
The compelling contraint of lo-fi metal becomes far more stark when further constrained to the blinding blur of just two arms, two legs, and one forked tongue.
https://pandiscordiannecrogenesis.bandcamp.com/

Foreskin Sashimi in Paradise
Sewn together from ninety-three locally sourced foreskins then slow roasted to perfection in an imported Siberian outhouse, this fusion twist on an old fashioned delicacy is sure to make the driest mouth water.

Ormus
Sound synthesis with its roots in heavy percussion, Ormus is the solo sonic and visual offering from multi-instrumentalist Ashley Spungin, rummer, coder, visual artist and instrument builder based in Portland.
