8 pm
KGB
Lorin Benedict - voice
Ben Goldberg - clarinet
Kasey Knudsen - alto saxophone

KGB is the trio consisting of Kasey Knudsen- alto saxophone, Ben Goldberg- clarinet, and Lorin Benedict- voice. In this context, these musicians focus on playing fundamentally contrapuntal music, varying in density and texture, culled from the jazz continuum and elsewhere. It is their intent to make musical form (chiefly predetermined) manifest in their collective improvisations, while exhibiting a sort of exploratory playfulness. In other words, they aim to have lots of fun!

9 pm
Nathan Clevenger Trio
Kasey Knudsen - alto saxophone
Michael Coleman - piano
Nathan Clevenger - guitar

Composer/guitarist Nathan Clevenger presents one of his periodic reductions of his long-running sextet, this time a trio featuring longtime collaborator Kasey Knudsen and a first encounter with the extraordinary Michael Coleman. The trio's debut performance will include selections from the Nathan Clevenger Group's repertoire and new pieces. The East Bay Express called the Nathan' music “long-form, dreamy, sectional without being rigid, and bluesy — albeit in a non-traditional way” and critic Andrew Gilbert -- appearing on KQED -- recently named the Group a Top Local Band to Watch in 2014, opining that "(Clevenger) makes brilliant use of the many colors at his disposal."
