Gench Music Series: DIMMER + ANTIMATTER + ETHEL DARE TRIO

DIMMER
Dimmer is a homegrown California duo comprising live sampling aficionado Thomas Dimuzio and tape-loop maestro Joseph Hammer. Enveloping audiences with dark explorations of sound, Dimmer specializes in a symbiotic sound process as they continually loop, reloop, sample and resample within an interactive feedback circuit linking both artists. "This is patient, spacious, luminous, mature composition" says The Wire of Dimmer's Ascent(Isounderscore 2012). Thomas Dimuzio has performed and recorded as a solo artist and collaboratively with Chris Cutler, Fred Frith, David Lee Myers, Dan Burke, Due Process, 5uu's, Matmos, Wobbly, and Negativland, among others. Joseph Hammer has performed and recorded as a solo artist and as a member of Solid Eye, LAFMS, Dinosaurs With Horns, Points of Friction, and Kitten Sparkles, and in collaboration with many others.

ANTIMATTER
The sound work of Xopher Davidson is concerned with the physical material of sound. Crossing between tangible and the intangible, the subject of sound waves moving, unable to be fixed in time. He has performed as a member of the live electronic groups Citizen Band and Circular Firing Squad. In 2001 he and Zbigniew Karkowski recorded the seminal subsonic treatise 'function generator'. He has collaborated and performed with Zbigniew Karkowski on 4 albums, and shows in the US and Europe. Over a course of the last 11 years he has built and explored the sound world of a homebrew modular synthesizer comprised of surplus laboratory equipment: various oscillators, pulse generators, filters and an 'analog computer'. He has released 4 albums as ANTIMATTER : Transfixion, Antimatter Vs. Antimatter, Our Lady of the Skies, and Reset.

ETHEL DARE TRIO
Sung Kim is an Improviser, sculptor, and instrument builder born in Seoul, Korea on March 3, 1975 (YEAR OF THE RABBIT) in 1989, Kim studied ceramic sculpture at The Corcoran School of Art. It was at Corcoran that Kim started designing and building his own variations on the guitar. Kim received his BFA in Sculpture from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1999. It was in Chicago where Kim started exploring his invented musical instruments in an improvisational context. Kim facilitates his musical and sculptural endeavors by operating an Architectural Woodworking design/build studio in the San Francisco Bay Area. Randylee Sutherland is a multi-instrumentalist and improvisor best known for his enthusiasm and easy going nature. Notable collaborations include Sword and Sandals, Nuclear Deathwish, Break-Arts, Key West, and Volts. Brian Pedersen is a band leader and composer best known for his creation and perpetuation of Bay Area Free Jazz octet, KEY WEST.

GENCH MUSIC SERIES at Duende is an ongoing performance series curated by Thomas Dimuzio with the intent to unify and showcase the diversity of fringe music practitioners of the Bay Area and beyond. Participating artists include Red Camel (DJ Disk), Tom Nunn, Paul Winstanley, Scott Brazieal, Wobbly, The Scope, Illusion of Safety, Evelyn Davis, Jeanie-Aprille Tang, Gino Robair, Sharkiface, Primitive Feast, Fluorescent Grey, bran(…)pos, Jim, Kaiser, Kamoto Trio, Christine Stanley, Beth Custer, Joe Lasqo, and others.
