This voyage through the world of the classical guitar, taking us from the discovery of a very important manuscript dating from 1565 found in the archive of the Cathedral of Castelfranco to Angelo Gilardino’s contemporary music, sheds light on the many souls of the guitar. Among the most fascinating, mysterious and introspective of instruments, it can use plucked strings to invoke the polyphony of madrigals, or the piano virtuosi of the nineteenth century, or even the most modern experimental music.
Hailed as "prodigiously talented" (P. Fowles, Classical Guitar Magazine) and the recipient of a considerable number of prizes, classical guitarist Alberto Mesirca was musically educated in the conservatory of Castelfranco del Veneto, where he now teaches classical guitar. He has given masterclasses in such distinguished establishments as the Royal Conservatory in Amsterdam, has performed in hundreds of concerts throughout Europe and beyond as well as on important radio stations, has held academic posts in Istanbul and Auckland, and has recorded two CDs of solo guitar as well as other albums. Among his many and varied activities, he has edited a volume of transcriptions from the 1565 Castelfanco Cathedral manuscript.
