Chapel of the Chimes
4499 Piedmont Ave Oakland, CA 94611

The historic, architecturally stunning Chapel of the Chimes is the backdrop for an afternoon of adventurous musical explorations. The NUVO Chamber Trio features expansive jazz re-interpretations of late-Romantic classics by G. Faure and S. Rachmaninoff, Ladino folk music, plus original Brazilian and Turkish compositions. Rounding out the repertoire includes a suite of blues works by Ornette Coleman, Thelonius Monk, & McCoy Tyner along with a whimsical gypsy version of the Fats Waller classic, Honeysuckle Rose.

NUVO Chamber Trio is an ensemble that effortlessly bridges the gap between jazz and classical styles, world music and free improvisation, acoustic and electronic sensibilities. The group is comprised of multi-instrumentalist/vocalist, composer/arranger and educator Michael Smolens, touring cellist, composer and educator Sam Bass, and the highly versatile percussionist Brian Rice.
