On Wednesday July 23 at 7:30pm, Tom's Place presents
Andrea Centazzo (perc, elec) and
Jon Raskin (sax)
with
Charles Sharp (reeds) and Jeff Schwartz (cb)
Tom's Place is pleased to present an evening with Andrea Centazzo and
Jon Raskin, aided by Charles Sharp and Jeff Schwartz. This will be a Company-style evening, mix-and-matching various combinations of the evening's artists.
All four artists have solid free-jazz backgrounds, so I expect a certain amount of ripping it up.
Andrea Centazzo (born in Italy but now living in Los Angeles) is an internationally acclaimed percussionist, composer and musicologist. Obsessed with gongs and electronics, his music captures the rhythm and pulse of life by synthesizing the mystery of Oriental percussive vibrations with the timbral harmonic understanding of contemporary music and the soul of jazz and rock post-culture.
We're excited to have Andrea back at Tom's Place, this time with
Jon Raskin, owner of the ROVA saxophone quartet's lead-off initial and a prodigious composer and jaw harp player. (I think he's sticking to saxophones tonight, but I've been wrong before.)
Rounding out the ensemble are Andrea's collaborators in the Next Trio, woodwind player Charles Sharp and bassist Jeff Schwartz.
