Chicago-born sound experimentalist Matana Roberts works in a variety of performance mediums including improvisation, dance, poetry, and theater. A dynamic saxophonist, composer, and improviser, her work explores the mystical roots and spiritual traditions of American music within improvisatory structures. In this particular show, Roberts will be workshopping Coin Coin Chapter Two: Moonchile, an ode to the stories she grew up hearing about her families roots in Louisiana and Mississippi and participation in the Great Migration north early in the 20th century, with special guest artists who are based in San Francisco and Los Angeles, including YBCA Artist-in-Residence
