KGB (Knudsen, Goldberg, Benedict) + The Nathan Clevenger Ensemble
KGB is the trio consisting of
Kasey Knudsen- alto saxophone,
Ben Goldberg- clarinet, and
Lorin Benedict- voice. In this context, these musicians focus on playing fundamentally contrapuntal music, varying in density and texture, culled from the jazz continuum and elsewhere. It is their intent to make musical form (chiefly predetermined) manifest in their collective improvisations, while exhibiting a sort of exploratory playfulness. In other words, they aim to have lots of fun!

The Nathan Clevenger Group The Nathan Clevenger Group has been playing sideways-but-melodic original modern jazz in the Bay Area since 2003. The band released their debut album, The Evening Earth, in 2010 and a second album, Observatory, in 2013. The East Bay Express called the Group’s music “long-form, dreamy, sectional without being rigid, and bluesy — albeit in a non-traditional way” and critic Andrew Gilbert -- appearing on KQED -- recently named the Group a Top Local Band to Watch in 2014, opining that "(Clevenger) makes brilliant use of the many colors at his disposal." Beginning in 2014, the Group has welcomed additional an additional percussionist on each gig, with Jason Levis joining us for this set.
