Sunset Music and Arts' 2015 Winter/Spring season kicks off on January 17, 2015 with recital by Leon Rosen in a program of original compositions titled 'Compositions from the heart of winter.' The compositions and improvisation draws its inspiration from Jewish liturgical songs, and works by other great Jazz artists.

The program will be followed by 'Favorite songs from Broadway shows and more' with Sally Porter Munro (San Francisco Opera) and accompanied by Vaughn Jones.

Leon Rosen is a San Francisco-based artist and performer. His eclectic past, unique journey and quest for meaning have shaped his distinct sound and image. Born and raised at “Theater Artaud,” an artist cooperative in San Francisco, he trained in music, dance, theater and circus arts. He moved to NYC to study at The New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program, while concurrently maintaining apprenticeship in composition from Universal Pictures arranger, Neil Waltzer. Performing with his high level collaborative band, and composing for theater and film, his journey brought him a deeper understanding of the jazz, classical, soul and pop elements that would fuse to become his style. In 2004 Rosen moved to Jerusalem, Israel. Feeling deep question about the likelihood of a music career outside of cheap bars, he sought out meaning and contribution. In Israel, Rosen participated in an organization devoted to fostering interfaith dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians. Being himself both Jewish and Armenian, he always has been drawn to cross-cultural reconciliation and harmony.
