SFMusic Thursdays: Vocallective (sponsored by SFFCM)

Vocallective brings together a roster of singers and instrumentalists who share a passion for vocal chamber music. Led by founder Indre Viskontas (www.indreviskontas.com), the collective organizes and curates concert programs both inside the concert hall and in unconventional spaces with the goal of presenting vocal chamber music at the highest artistic level and reaching the widest possible audience. With a commitment to support living composers and the creation of new repertoire, the ensemble focuses on presenting new music whenever possible.

This concert represents an exploration of the ethereal quality of vocal chamber music. Pieces to be performed include Unwritten by Mohammed Fairouz for voice and chamber orchestra, a flute sonata by Poulenc, a string quartet by Philip Glass, Far Away Songs for voice and piano quintet by Nico Muhly and the world premiere of a new string quartet by the Town’s own cellist, Lewis Patzner. The pieces to be presented were chosen for the airy and otherwordly qualities with which they transcend language. Each piece provides a soundscape that emphasizes the stillness of time during life’s most moving moments.
