In celebration of THE MEDEA PROJECT: THEATER FOR INCARCERATED WOMEN’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY Brava! For Women in the Arts and Cultural Odyssey present “BIRTHRIGHT?”, a collaboration between Artistic Director, Rhodessa Jones, and her Medea Project: Theater for Incarcerated Women and Planned Parenthood Northern California.. All performances will be at Brava Theater Center, 2781-24th Street at York, San Francisco, CA 94110 running Thursdays through Sundays, April 9 – April 19, 2015. Bay Area new music icon, IDRIS ACKMAOOR< will perform the score for the theater piece "LIVE"! Improvisor DAVID MOLINA, will also provide a "soundscape" for the show.All shows Thursday through Saturday at 8 PM with matinees on Sunday at 3 PM with a Special Gala Show Saturday, April 11. Tickets are $20 - $50. Discount Ticketing: Students & Seniors: $5 off ticket price. Children under 10: $10 for all shows. 10% discount for Groups of 10 or more. BIRTHRIGHT? is supported in part by a grant from the CREATIVE WORK FUND and NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS. The production is an expansion and new cultural offering in Rhodessa Jones’ body of work based on her original method of using “art as social activism,” this time focusing on the subject of women’s reproductive rights. Using skills she has honed for the past 25 years working with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women, as well as HIV+ women of color, theater artist Rhodessa Jones will premiere a new work that pushes the boundaries, excites, and examines issues affecting us all!
