Ensemble San Francisco: Amor

Ensemble San Francisco presents the world premiere of a new set of songs by composer Jose Gonzalez Granero, featuring SF Opera's Efrain Solis. Also on the program is music by Oakland-based Mark Ackerley, and Osvaldo Golijov’s Levante for piano solo.

“A hip, unstuffy, and malleable group of high-quality chamber musicians who are dedicated to fresh programming” raves the SF Classical Voice, Ensemble San Francisco is known for its welcoming and accessible style, and Thursday’s performance will include time for the audience to ask questions of the performers, as well as of composers Granero and Ackerley.

The program will feature the world premiere of a new set of songs by Jose Gonzalez Granero, sung by an SF Opera Adler fellow, baritone Efrain Solis. The evening continues with music by SF Conservatory graduate Mark Ackerley, and also includes a recent piano solo by Osvaldo Golijov.

Granero, the principal clarinetist of the SF Opera orchestra, joins cellist Jonah Kim and pianist Christine Payne to perform the first movement of the Brahms Clarinet Trio. Kim and violinist Rebecca Jackson will also perform the first movement of the Kodaly Duo for Violin and Cello.

In addition to its mainstage performances, Ensemble SF is very dedicated to bringing world class music to schools, hospitals, and nursing homes throughout the Bay Area. Every mainstage concert is paired with at least one outreach concert, and earlier on June 11, ESF members will be performing for hospice patients in San Francisco.
