ACKAMOOR/MOLINA DUET: A Ritualistic Musical Journey Improvised With Traditional & Invented Instruments

Using a multitude of traditional acoustic and invented instruments, ACKAMOOR/MOLINA DUET creates a ritualistic, improvised musical journey that takes the listeners through various sonic territories, including ambient, experimental, jazz, American folk, and more.

Using modern technology, Molina creates sparse and dense layers, which can range from hauntingly beautiful and meditative to dark and unnerving soundscapes. Idris uses his collection of alto and tenor saxophones, keyboards, and invented instruments to provide a contrast and celebrate the forms of jazz exposed by John Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Sun Ra, and more.

Featuring:
David Molina – classical and electric guitar, cello, autoharp, Burmese harp, and more
Idris Ackamoor – alto and tenor saxophone, invented Cymbal tree, Chinese gongs, various percussions, and more

“Molina has the uncanny ability to make music out of anything. He draws inspiration from the urban landscape and the refuse most people discard as nonfunctional and obsolete,
breathing new life and music into them.” – Dorothy Santos, Asterisk Magazine

“[Ackamoor’s] compositions incorporated intercontinental and cosmic sources, opening passages into boundless periods and locales, each one seemingly unearthed from futuristic sarcophagi.” – Sam Ada, Fader Magazine
