Play or Die 2016: Concert #4
opening: Larry Ochs - SCOTT WALTON (bass) - Jordan Glenn (drums)
2nd set: SATOKO FUJII (piano) - Kappa Maki (trumpet) - Gino Robair drums, electronics
3rd shorter set = one extended sextet piece

"Play or Die": a call to action by Anthony Braxton in the seventies. We're still in agreement.
Improvised music has to be heard live to be best appreciated! AND musicians practicing
this rugged discipline must perform to a live audience as often as possible in order to evolve, in order to feed the mind.

This will be the first concert of the the 2016 Play or Die series to take place in the East Bay.
Celebrating the return to the Bay Area of the historically important Japanese improvisers Satoko Fujii and Kappa Maki,
who will be joined by local great Gino Robair. Opening for them:
Larry Ochs hooks up for the first time ever with the Bay Area rhythm and noise section of Scott Walton and Jordan Glenn.
Following those two 30-minute sets, the trios will join together to perform one extended sextet piece "designed" by Ochs,
who has played and recorded with Fujii and Maki since 2009
when they sat in with and then became permanent members of "Larry Ochs Sax & Drumming Core".
