Oakland Freedom Jazz Society presents
Marshall/Allen/Spirit with special guest Scott Walton
Marshall/Allen/Spirit is a kaleidoscope of rhythm and sound, focusing on spontaneous composition to achieve an excited exploration. The group uses theme and variation, dissonant timbrel sounds, poytonality, and both poly rhythmic and multiple independent pulses to create their dense and layered compositions.
The group is composed of a baby boomer, a gen x, and a millennial.
Josh Allen and Spirit have a twenty year history of music together, the former often hounding the master percussionist to play with him. Josh Marshall started joining them about two years ago, helping to completely transform the sound and direction of the group.
In a continuing effort to transform their sound, the group augments their lineup with various players. This night the group will be adding double bassist Scott Walton. This should have the makings of phenomenal music.
