The Nature of Music: Raven Chacon

Presented by the Brower Center and Other Minds

In this closing event for the Common Ground juried exhibition, new music organization Other Minds and the Brower Center present Raven Chacon, a composer of chamber music, a performer of experimental noise music, and an installation artist. Originally from the Navajo Nation and based in Albuquerque, NM, Chacon's work explores sounds of acoustic handmade instruments overdriven through electric systems and the direct and indirect audio feedback responses from their interactions.

Raven's work has often engaged with ideas of place and identity, utilizing field recordings & Native American musical forms and instruments. He will perform pieces from his existing solo repertoire, plus one piece commissioned by Other Minds, specifically for this performance. This new work will address and utilize the soundscape of our National Parks and their relationship to their Native inhabitants. Raven will perform solo with electronics (amplifiers, guitar effects pedals, homemade instruments, etc.) and a Q&A will follow the performance, hosted by Charles Amirkhanian.

Doors to the gallery open 30 minutes before all events. All seating is general admission, and we recommend early arrival to ensure seat selection. If you require ADA accessible seating please contact the Brower Center in advance.
