Desire paths are well-trodden trails created by foot traffic, where the ground becomes imprinted evidence of a place that wants to be discovered, and the people who seek it out. Grab your walking stick for Desire Trails, a once-a-year event where artists activate the Headlands landscape. In this edition, sound artists including Guillermo Galindo, Molly Joyce (AIR), Andy Puls, Voicehandler (AIR), and others tune our ears to a whole new experience of the landscape.

Hikers will meet in our Main Building 944 to briefly study-up on the science of sound before heading outside to find, observe, and participate in a variety of experiences orchestrated by artists, authors, and scientists. You’ll encounter analog and electronic sound-generating instruments powered by weather, solar energy, and even our own bodies, voices, and thoughts. After foraying, (r)amblers reconvene in the Mess Hall to enjoy a post-trek meal. This event is family friendly.

Walks leave from Main Building 944 at 12PM. Meals will be served 1–3PM in the Mess Hall, with gluten-free and vegan options available; meal tickets are limited—pre-purchase is highly recommended. The event will be canceled in the case rain and tickets refunded. If it is unseasonably warm, we will provide water to participants.

Advance ticket sales recommended.
