Paul Sakai, Kumi Maxson and Matias E.A. join forces in a dynamic trio focused on long-form free improvisation. While presenting in a familiar jazz trio format, they employ a full spectrum of textures from noise through traditional harmony and have developed a common language involving flexible pulse, drones, 12-tone counterpoint, and extended technique. Their music thematically reflects landscape, closeness and generosity.
Liana Warren is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist out of Oakland, California. Her work is marked by intricate fingerpicking, robust lyricism, and her energetic emotionality compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Adrianne Lenker. Singing in the Oakland DIY scene’s FreeKey Choir, she brings her wide vocal range of soaring highs and deep, rich lows to her songwriting. Her songs are honest and raw, yet hopeful. Previously performing under the moniker “Liana for Now,” she reflects on temporality and change and the messy beauty of existence.
