Saxophonist Hafez Modirzadeh accompanies renowned poets Tongo Eisen-Martin, Poet Laureate of San Francisco, and Steve Dickison, director of the poetry center at San Francisco State University, as they read in a house concert in the North Berkeley hills. This concert & reading brings together people--2 poets and 1 musician--whose artistry breaks down the boundaries between music and language. Tongo Essen-Martin is an extraordinary propulsive poet who is a captivating reader. Steve Dickison's poetry is never far from music. And Hafez Modirzadeh has developed a unique improvisatory language drawing upon the cross-cultural traditions of jazz with traditional Iranian, Arab and Turkish music.

West Oakland Sound Series
[2201 Poplar Street Dresher Ensemble Studio Oakland]
Berlin-based violinist
SARAH SAVIET
explores shifting limits: between interpreter and author, idea and body, virtuosity and failure, periphery and interior. This performance will include her own music which engages with texts by Bauhaus textile artist Anni Albers, as well as music by British composers Jack Sheen and Lawrence Dunn.
SAM WEISER
(violin) and
DUSTIN CARLSON
(guitar) both exist in the spaces that straddle classical and improvised music. They have been working together for the past six months on Dustin's new suite for solo violin, entitled, "Her Warrior Longs to Rest". The piece is inspired by the Grave of Griffin Warrior (ca. 1450 BC), one of the wealthiest burials found in Greece in the last 70 years. In addition, the performance will also include Dustin's music for solo guitar, as well as duets.

Guillermo Galindo: Nexo Organico/Organic Nexus
Guillermo Galindo presents a live score to a black and white post-apocalyptic animation film that shows a nuanced dialogue between classical taxonomic systems rooted in European codices and contemporary biogenetic sciences and corporations. The latter, often linked to extractivism and genetic modification for commodification, face tension within this artistic exploration. The piece reflects a post-human symbiotic mutant world inhabited with entities that are part fish part animal, part human and part plant.
