1st Set - Donald Robinson/Jim Ryan Duo
Donald Robinson drums, Jim Ryan alto/tenor sax & flute
Two Bay Area Stalwarts team up in a free jazz duo
Donald’s percussion and Jim’s flute and sax work are known throughout
their base in the Bay Area but they go all the way back to the free jazz explosion that took place in Paris, France during the early 1970’s where they both caught the fire of the improv revolution. However, this is the first time they have joined to play a gig together! The celestial bodies have lined up to create very special event, indeed!

2nd Set - Dave has returned (again!) from his 35 year residence in NYC
to play in his old East Bay home. He’ll be on alto sax because
his habitual subversive baritone (which he plays often with William Parker and other big apple notables) has been placed on the
no fly list. He will be joined by Bill Horvitz on guitar. Bill came
up with Dave in ancient days and they worked together and with
myriad others in the NYC 70s, i.e. with Butch Morris, John Zorn,
Myra Melford, George Lewis and lots more. Bill fuses traditional
and extended techniques, and his personal vision endows the
music with a huge array of tonal color. Scott Walton’s projects
include work with Vinny Golia, Michael Vlatkovich, Nels & Alex
Cline, and drummer Nathan Hubbard. From San Diego, he is
now working out from his recent home on the Russian River.

Dave Sewelson Groop - Dave was born in Oakland, California, in 1952. There was a half-size violin kept in the closet in case he wanted to be a concert violinist. He played trumpet at the age of nine, moving to baritone horn at the age of eleven, followed by a stint on drums until settling on electric bass at thirteen, adding upright bass to the mix until the switch to saxophone at the age of twenty-one. He has specialized in the baritone saxophone since the early seventies.

Sewelson arrived in New York City in the summer of 1977, settled in the East Village, played in many bands in the area including the 25 O’Clock Band, Jemeel Moondoc’s Jus Grew Orchestra, Noise R Us, Mofungo, Freedomland and Fast ‘n Bulbous. He was a founding member of the Microscopic Septet. Lifetime member of William Parker’s Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra.
