Serving the San Francisco Bay Area New Music Community

Fri, Sep 16 2016 7:00 PM

Bassist, composer, and bandleader Lisa Mezzacappa presents the US premiere of Organelle, her composition for improvisers inspired by theories of cell biology, astrophysics, paleontology, and neuroscience. She explores through sound the different ways that the human body, the natural world, and the cosmos mark and experience the passing of time. Joining Lisa will be Darren Johnston on trumpet, Kyle Bruckman on oboes, Cory Wright on reeds, John Finkbeiner on guitar, and Jordan Glenn on drums and percussion.

Also dropping some science will be Broun Fellinis, the brilliant and groundbreaking Bay Area trio that has mixed together postmodern jazz, dub, afrobeat, and abstract funk into their unique "Brounsoun" for a quarter century.

In addition, our galleries will come alive with a set of short films by Jean Painlevé, the French biologist and documentary filmmaker whose career spanned the 1920s through the 1970s.

Cost: $12 general
