Reconnaissance Fly's new EP, Off By One, is finally here and they will celebrate this by getting together on stage, plugging in a lot of devices, getting tangled in a bunch of cords, playing all the songs from the EP plus songs from their first album Flower Futures and a bunch of new as-yet-unrecorded tunes, and making quips in between songs. The show will begin with the symphonic space guitar of Carl Weingarten!

OFF BY ONE
In 2014, our debut album Flower Futures was unleashed as a “spong cycle” with lyrics drawn entirely from internet spam. Our new EP, Off By One, captures the band in an introspective mode with two completely instrumental tracks, and lyrics from Linear A inscriptions, poetry by Siegfried Sassoon, and a spam-ified concert review. Polly Moller straps on a guitar, bringing her own take to the role previously held by Bill Wolter (Inner Ear Brigade, Surplus 1980). The four tracks by bassist Tim Walters have strong Canterbury and spy-rock tinges, with lots of surprising twists and turns. “Itzirktna” by former keyboardist Amanda Chaudhary flies the funk flag high, planted in the playful nerdiness which has become the band’s trademark.

Off By One was recorded live in Studio Faire la Nouba, the private domain of Larry The O who engineered, mixed, and mastered the EP. It will be available on September 20 in CD and download form from the Reconnaissance Fly Bandcamp site, and for purchase at the CD release concert.

RECONNAISSANCE FLY
Reconnaissance Fly was born in 2009 from the dormant and pupating remains of Polly Moller & Company, then the six-year-old vehicle for flutist and vocalist Polly Moller’s spoken word compositions. Growing and transmogrifying, the band embraced progressive rock, jazz, funk, contemporary classical, and free improvisation influences, and became a team of goofball composers and superhero sidemen. The five members of Reconnaissance Fly are Brett Carson on keyboard; Rich Lesnik on clarinet, bass clarinet, and soprano and tenor saxophones; Polly Moller on voice, flutes and guitar; Larry the O on the drums, and Tim Walters on bass guitar and electronics.

CARL WEINGARTEN
Carl Weingarten is an American guitarist, photographer, and founder of the independent music label Multiphase Records. Described as “one of the best indie musicians working today" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Carl is best known for his atmospheric sound and use of the slide guitar and Dobro. Weingarten has played a significant role in the progressive independent music scene since the 1980s, recording numerous solo and collaborative instrumental albums.

An early practitioner of the recording/performing technique called Looping, Carl’s techno-pop trio Delay Tactics used tape and later digital delays as the heart of their sound. Carl has since toured nationally as both a soloist and session guitarist, adding his unique atmospheric guitar in rock, jazz and ambient music settings. Carl’s music has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and the syndicated radio programs Hearts of Space, New Sounds, and Echoes. His 2002 CD escapesilence was voted the #1 album on the annual Echoes Listener’s Poll. In 2012 Carl’s CD Panomorphia, was honored by the Zone Music Reporter during an awards ceremony in New Orleans as ZMR’s best “Chill/Groove” CD of the year. Carl’s follow up CD Life Under Stars was nominated in 2015 by Zone Music Reporter in the Best Instrumental Album category.
