On Tuesday, April 3, at 7:30pm, Tom's Place presents
Jaap Blonk, solo
performing "Dr Voxoid's Next Move"
and improvising with
Bryan Day (percussion)
and
Tim Duff (contrabass)
As a vocalist, Jaap Blonk is unique for his powerful stage presence and almost childlike freedom in improvisation, combined with a keen grasp of structure. He has performed around the world, on all continents. With the use of live electronics the scope and range of his concerts has acquired a considerable extension.
Dr Voxoid's Next Move is his current voice and electronics performance, in constant development, new possibilities being added frequently. He prefers to choose a specific program on the spot and may even change it during a performance.
It may contain:
- sound poetry, his own works and possibly an occasional classic from this tradition
- pieces in invented languages
- phonetic etudes and processes
- live soundscapes
- improvisations, both for solo voice and in dialogue with his live electronics
- and more...
The evening will also include an improvised set with Tim Duff on double bass and
Bryan Day playing homebuilt percussion instruments.
Bryan Day is well-known as an instrument builder and improviser, both solo and in such ensembles as Bad Jazz (with
Tania Chen and Ben Saloman) and Seeded Plain (with Jay Kerimer). Tim Duff is a songwriter and bass player, currently working with
Josh Allen and
Aaron Levin.
