A fluent and often arresting improviser and a composer with a keen sense of form, Carey presents the world premiere of Fire in My Head (The Anxiety Suite), an extended, multi-movement work that straddles straight-ahead jazz and chamber music to explore America in an age of angst (on both a personal and community level). It might sound forbidding, but Carey possesses a broad streak of puckish, even absurdist humor. With Kasey Knudsen, alto saxophone; Sheldon Brown, bass clarinet; Adam Shulman, piano; Jon Arkin, drums; and Fred Randolph, bass.

Fire in My Head has been made possible with support from Chamber Music America’s 2016 New Jazz Works program funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Cost: $20
